So here I’m to explain how to read chatting in your favourites IRC channels

First thing you need is the wombatIRC mod you can download from HERE (tnX to Randall "digiwombat" Fitzgerald for this nice app), the second is Mirc (that is mandatory because wombatIRC work only with it).

After download install apps where you want (probably you already have Mirc on your system..).

Before to continue is better to know how this tool work:

Start Teory ___

During your Mirc chat sessions you can decide to create a .log file of your conversations for each channel you are in. Inside this textual .log file are saved (in realtime way) all channel activity.

Usually Mirc save .log files giving as name the interested channel name, so if you are chatting in #xps_m1730 channel the .log file will be named xps_m1730.log.

wombatIRC “read” these log files and show their contents on your game LCD panel in real-time way. That mean, for example, when someone write a comment in the focused channel, you’ll see it on the panel (e new text line with the comment will appear).

___ end Teory

That’s it .. so the “big work” is: tell Mirc to write .log files and tell WombatIRC to read them….

So open Mirc and select Tool--> Options--> Logging, a window nearly (could change a little bit depending on the Ver) like this will open:

Now do the following settings:

Uncheck Date filenames (to make WombatIRC able to read your .log files no others characters needed apart the channel name)

Check trim log files to: 100 kb (WombatIRC could have some problem to manage big files)

Automatically log: Both (if you want to save both channel and private conversations)

Uncheck Timestamp Logs (for 2 reasons: first is a waste of reduced space on your panel, second If you have a Mirc Ver <= 6.16 and you selected to view times in your chat window, checking Timestamp logs the time will appear twice )

Check stripe codes (to avoid colors, your LCD panel have not colors)

Uncheck lock log files (why lock them if we want to make wombatIRC reading them?)

Uncheck include network (for the reasons explained in “uncheck Date filenames”, this function will ad the network name in the .log filename)

Now you have to know where Mirc save log files, so look logs and buffer saves folder. Here you could change path if you need or want, but if you don’t get inside the default folder, after closing Mirc, and erase already saved logs if there are… (cleanup the room J ).

Start Test ___

Now reopen Mirc and make a test, get inside a channel, stay a wile, write something, close Mirc, enter the log folder and check if the name of the file correspond to the visited channel name (no dubt about it) open it with notepad and look inside.

___ end Test

Now open WombatIRC and set the folder of .log files to the correct path, do it pressing the “…” botton (remember the last point before Test ..). Here you tell to wombatIRC where to get the logs files.
Add your channel or channels in the channel list and click “add”. Remember to write the channel name with # at the beginning.

Example: to add #xps_m1730 channel don’t write

xps_m1730

but

#xps_m1730

Close WombatIRC, reopen it and iconize (minimize to tray).

That’s all, now on your LCD panel, switching between app using the rounded button you should find wombatIRC working.

Note: to see it working you must have Mirc opened on the selected (added) working channel .
